After a week of rain the sun finally came out for a day and made for a pleasant day cycling in the Tweed Valley. With a base in Cardrona the route visited Peebles through to Innerleithen and the various forested hills in between.
I chose the 5 hour option looking for a good day out. Started OK although even on the first control the terrain became very rough with steep ground and grassy meadows to traverse. On the second control the path I chose to follow didn't really exists and led into an impassible mass of saplings. Got well and truly stuck after carrying my bike up several hundred metres of ascent. GPS showed afterwards I was really close but just couldn't get through to destination.
After this major fail I decided to stick to the low ground and the easier controls which made for some much more pleasant cycling. Unfortunately got a flat but was able to inflate it just enough to get me round to the finish.
A nice spread of BBQ sausage and burger was laid on at the finish.
