Dalbeattie & SOL1

Left the snows of Edinburgh to visit the Galloway coast on Saturday. We visited the Moffat Toffee Shop which was the highlight of the year for Hannah. Then went to the RSPB reserve of Mersehead and walking along the mudflats and beach. Later went to the pretty beach of Rockcliffe.

On Sunday we did a Scottish League Orienteering event. Hannah did brilliant by map reading on her own for the first time. Max did very well as well. Colin made everyone else feel superior.

SOSOL 6

We were greeted with a cold and frosty morning as we went out on the sixth SOSOL event of the season. The start was just across the read from the Inn.

Hannah was a little slower than ususal coming in 6th of 7.

Max did really well coming in 5th place of 15 in a good time.

Colin came 11th of 41 on a very hilly course.

Loch Lomond

Away to the shores of Loch Lomond for the weekend. Left Edinburgh on Friday afternoon and arrived at the Oak Tree Inn in Balmaha early evening. Went for a night walk with our torches to watch the sun set.

On Saturday we got a taxi to Rowardennan and walked back to Balmaha along the West Highland Way. Took 5 hours in total with a distance of around 7 miles. Absolutely marvellous weather. Hannah was heard asking "are we in Africa?". Enjoyed some time along the route playing on the beaches! Almost went in for a swim.

Carnethy 5

A very cold and windy day for this 6 mile run in the Pentlands. 5 summits and 2500 ft of ascent. The winds were so strong you were almost blown over and much of the ground was frozen making it difficult under foot.

Got round in 80 minutes, almost a full 10 minutes faster than last year. 301 st place out of around 460 runners (395 th last year).

Beinn Ime & Narnain

Colin & Frank went walking on a fantastic winter's day. Some clouds from about 750 m but what a pleasant surprise when we emerged at the summit of Beinn Ime above cloud level with glorious sunshine and fantastic views of Scotland's highest peaks.

Went on to Narnain which was also above the clouds and later on the clouds broke up as we headed home.

5 hr 45 minutes walking in total at a very brisk pace.

Orienteering

Went out to Craiglockhart hill on Saturday afternoon for a stroll around the yellow course then to Hopetoun House on Sunday morning. Max and Hannah and Cherry zoomed around the Yellow whilst Colin did the first half of the Sprint-O. The computers broke and delayed the second half so long we decided to head home.

Say some curlew's, oystercatchers, several heron and a large bird of prey.

RESULTS:

Ledlie Family came second on the YELLOW at Craiglockhart.

At Hopetoun House Max was 3 rd on Yellow and Hannah and Cherry came 5th (of 15). Colin came 30th of 43.

Junior Great Winter Run

Disaster Strikes for Max Ledlie in the Junior Great Winter Run. The hot favourite was well poised for a winning burst in the last 800 metres when his hamstring muscle pulled and he hobbled to the side of the track. The first aiders sprang to his assistance and advised that he walk back to the finish of the course. His coach came in for harsh criticism for not preparing the young star adequately. No warm-ups, no stretches. Oh Dear!
